Default September, 2009: The Boston Grid

Hello everyone.

Boston, 2023. The downtown highway construction project have been long gone abandoned after the economy collapsed in the early 2013. Five years later, the government converted the structures into a suspended residential complex for the lower incomes. It is now known as “The Grid”.

CGC Matte Painting guidelines | The Boston Grid

1) The piece will have to be the extension or enhancement of an existing photograph. (the plate). You can choose a plate of your own.
2) You will have to show the original plate in your wip* post.
3) The final resolution output of your piece should be matching the aspect ratio of the Academy picture format aspect ratio*.
4) The general composition should be a fairly wide angle establishing shot.
5) The piece should incorporate at least one photograph. (the plate*)
6) The piece should incorporate at least one 3D element. (The 3D element doesn't have to be a final element. It can be used as general blocking tool i.e. cubes to guide you with perspective or general layout. Note that you are more than welcome to create final 3D assets to incorporate in your piece)
7) The piece needs to show a recognizable element of Boston's downtown area.
8) The piece needs to show the suspended residential areas hanging from what could be a highway overpass.
9) The piece should not have any characters. Environment only.
10) Remember, you should have a good time doing it!

It says on the header graphic that entries are due ON the first of the month (look at the top of this page). And in the contest rules thread it states that winners will be picked the 5th of October. I just saw this contest, Rocky and only have a few weeks to "pull something out of my hat".

Good luck everyone! This is gunna be fun!

Default The Boston Grid

I would like to participate but I don't have a single 3d piece of software so does that lack of element from my WIP disqualify me?
