May Contest: Iron Man: The creation of a metal suit
Iron Man 2 has a lot of new suits and all of them grow Strategically on him. With this in mind I want you this month to create armor that protects one or several objects in the scene. Think of the new iron man trailers; also think of the Tim Burton Batman movie where the armor covered the car. The object does not have to be a character but if you can pull it off that would be great. 1) I would shoot a static video of an actor standing still in a garage and then model a suit on them in Maya. I would then use modeling animation tools to reverse the growth and animate from my end frame to the beginning where their would no longer have the metal suit on. Again if you do not want to do a character I would advise growing armor around a room in a house like the living room, where if a alarm goes off everything is protected. Have fun. 2) The aspect ratio should be 1.77 (HD) 3) The final resolution output of your piece should be: 1280 x 720 4) The YouTube plug-in is installed on the forum and supports either standard def or HD. To Embed a YouTube video you only put the video ID in between the BB code tags (NOT the full URL!). In your YouTube channel, Embedding MUST be enabled for the video! For more info read the CGC Contest Rules / FAQ: Visual Effects The contest ends on june 5th and three winners will be picked. You have till then to complete your VFX shot. The winners will be picked based on how they did in regards of the guidelines described above. Every month, for each contest, three winners will be picked. The first position winner will get: 10 Gnomon DVDs The second position winner will get: 5 Gnomon DVDs The Third position winner will get: 2 Gnomon DVDs The winners are picked on the 5th of each month and the results will be announced in the thread of that particular contest. When winning a contest, the Gnomon Workshop will contact you so you can pick your DVDs and confirm your shipping address. You will have the choice of getting hard copies or digital downloads. Usually you can expect to receive the email form the Gnomon Workshop about a week after the winners have been announced. Good luck!! This one sounds cool, but I think it will take some time to have it done.

I saw this competition quite late, But I'll prob give it ago even i flat out all the time. I'll see if i can pull this off with the next few days. I already started filming myself last week during lunch time.
My acting was pretty bad with 2 takes, and the quality was quite poor with no lighting preparation and lots of noise but i'll just stick to it and see if i can fix it all covering my self with the VFX. Now just on and off sketching my armour and hopefully onto modeling and animation. i'm going to do as much i can before i'm on my planned holiday this thursday. Hopefully post my progress soon tonight. It seems like a great topic and will regret to be miss out. Anyways see you guys in the forums. Jimmy.

I'm finished with the filming and the modeling of the suit and have just started animating so I'm pretty sure I will have it finished by june 5th.

Here's my suitup animation. Modelled and animated in Maya. Rendered in Mental Ray using HDRI image from location. Post and comp. in After Effects. I really enjoyed working on this and I'm looking forward to next months competition.
